About Reciclajes Merida y S. Solis

1955-1965

The Beginnings

Sebastián Solís Sánchez started his career as a waste recycler collecting paper, newspapers and cardboard in the streets of Madrid. At that time, all he had was a van, which he used to transport the material he collected each day to a wholesaler in the Spanish capital.

In 1956 he set up his first warehouse in Calle Peña de Francia, and in the early 1960s he acquired another in the Fortuna quarter of the city.  In 1963 he purchased the land now occupied by his main processing plant, allowing improvements in selection procedures and in the quality of the acquired.

1965-1990

Consolidation

With the founding of S. Solís, S.A., business continued to expand in Alcorcón: adjacent land was acquired, and two shredding and baling lines were installed, one for paper and one for cardboard. The company also diversified into waste management.

2000-2015

Geographic Expansion and Internationalisation

Solís, S.A. enlarged its facilities to 50,000 m2, with a covered area of over 15,000 m2. It now had one of the biggest plants of its type in Europe (with a storage capacity of 20,000 tonnes of paper, cardboard, wood, scrap metal and plastics).

The company also carried out its first operations in international markets, first in France and Portugal and later in Asia, mainly China and India.

2008 saw the incorporation of Reciclajes Mérida and  S. Solís Andalucía, two companies which served as catalysts for the geographic expansion of the group’s services at national level and for the extension of its processing activity to cover more types of waste.

2015 to date

Automation and Broadening of the Portfolio of Services Offered

In 2017, a new automatic sorting line based on optical recognition technology was installed for selectively collected paper and cardboard, and in 2021 a second line was acquired, again based on optical technology, for post-industrial waste (metal, plastic, cardboard, etc.). The group also started to manufacture plastic polymer scales.

In 2024 a new processing line was installed for the destruction of confidential documents (standard UNE 15713), and National Security Framework certification was obtained as a guarantee of our services for customers.
